Simultaneous interpreting is the complete and accurate oral translation of a message at the same rate of speech as the speaker. Any time lag between the speaker and the audience must be minimal. As you can imagine, successful simultaneous interpretation requires the target language and culture to be completely mastered. In addition, the interpreter must have an in-depth knowledge of the topic being discussed, as well as extensive training and experience. An interpreter can be very good at interpreting but this must be matched by knowledge of the subject matter, so that there is no hesitation in the interpreting.
Simultaneous interpreting is frequently used for conferences and large business meetings, where there is a large audience. On these occasions, there is a need for a separate booth for the interpreters and a PA system, or headsets. These are items which we can also provide. In addition, simultaneous interpreting can work very well in smaller business meetings for example board, directors or committee meetings. Whatever the situation and your need, we are able to supply an experienced and qualified linguist to help with the flow of information.
In a consecutive interpreting situation, our professionals will start interpreting the message once the original speaker has stopped talking. Therefore, the interpreters have time to analyse the message as a whole, making it easier for them to deliver a high-quality, frequently condensed, interpretation. This is usually used in smaller meetings, from a few people to one-to-one. Discretion and sensitivity are an integral part of the service, which is why we always insist on our linguists signing up to our Non-disclosure Agreement. This can be tailored to suit our clients’ specific requirements, if required.
Telephone interpreting is cost-effective way to have a conversation interpreted without the expense of an interpreter attending a meeting or event. The interpreting is conducted remotely by all parties by dialling into our dedicated telephone system. Once registered on the system, you will have access to 1000’s of interpreters who are fluent in 100’s of different language combinations. Once you have signed up for the service, you are given a PIN, or PINs, depending on whether you need to allocate specific cost centres to different calls.
After calling the dedicated call centre and stating your requirements, you will be connected to one of our team of interpreters. Costs vary but are charged by the minute and broken down into seconds. Therefore, you will only ever be charged for the actual time that you are on the line.
